Full time RV living is an awesome way to live for those that have an adventurous and nomadic spirit! But, if those that enjoy it can’t get a good night sleep, then adventures on the road could be a little troublesome. So, when RVers are having trouble getting a good nights sleep on their RV mattress, what would be the best RV replacement mattress?
As we have mentioned elsewhere on our website, we have been sleeping in an RV full time since 2008. Other than the 14 days we had to sleep elsewhere due to business needs and a family issue, all those nights have been on an RV mattress.
So, we are now in our tenth year of full time RV living and we are on our fourth mattress. We just purchased it. It is an RV memory foam mattress. We have had one other in our previous full time RV home. It was a temperpedic mattress that at the time costs around $1,200. We had that for about five years before we traded the RV in.
We liked the RV memory foam mattress. The only thing we could say was that in warmer weather it could be hot to sleep on. Other than that we found it comfortable. It replaced another spring type RV mattress that came with the RV. It was okay at first but it wore out quickly.
Our current full time RV living home came with a foam type RV mattress that we have been sleeping on for three years. Just recently we decided it was time again for a change. So, I jumped into action and started researching what would be a good replacement. Since we liked our previous memory foam mattress, I started there.
Check out this video as I show you the old mattress and discuss what I found.
The Best RV Replacement Mattress
Here is the video of the new RV memory foam mattress being installed.
And here is the RV replacement mattress after two hours of unpacking it.
So, what is this amazing RV Replacement Mattress all about? Who makes it and how can you get one? Will it work in your RV and do they have your size mattress?
As I mentioned in the video, our short queen mattress, sized 60″ by 74″ by 8″ thick arrived in a box that was much smaller than the mattresses actual size. It was vacuum compressed when manufactured, rolled up and shipped that way. Once received you do what I showed in video number two above. Here are the directions received from the manufacturer.
As you can see from the video the unpacking and decompressing process went just as it was supposed to. The instructions came in an envelope along with some other information. The envelope was attached to one of the ends of the compressed and rolled up mattress. I discovered them when I took the mattress out of its box. Here is a copy of the certification paperwork that was also included.
I read a review before I purchased the mattress that said if it was received, and seven months old, to return it because it had been in stasis for too long. Well, I went ahead and installed it to see what would happen. The mattress inflated to its full thickness in way less time than the manufacturer stated.
So why did I decide to purchase this mattress?
When I started doing my research I came across this product. I read some reviews, went to the company’s website and decided that for an RV replacement mattress that was under $200, I really had nothing to lose! So I went ahead and ordered it and received it three days later.
The construction of the mattress interested me. It had three different layers and thicknesses of foam: a 2″ layer of memory foam, another 2″ layer of pressure relieving comfort foam, and a 4″ layer of high-density support base foam.
RV Memory Foam Mattress Specifications
The RV foam mattress has the latest evolution of memory foam called BioFoam. It replaces some traditional petroleum type foam with a natural plant oil to help keep the mattress fresh. It also uses only the highest quality foam – the foam is CertiPUR-US Certified for durability, performance, and content. And of course, as I mentioned earlier in the video, it is conveniently shipped in its compressed format so that it is smaller and can be shipped in a way that will allow the consumer to receive it more quickly. It also comes with a 10-year limited warranty.
As you can see from the image above, there are more choices than just the 8″ thick model that we chose. Given our RV and that the previous mattress was 6″ thick, we decided that the 8″ model would work just fine.
If you have never had a memory foam mattress before, it may seem a little strange at first. When you press on it you leave an impression that quickly rebounds to the mattresses original surface.
What are some other benefits of this mattress?
- Conforming and Comfortable: because it is made from the latest evolution in memory foam, and infused with natural ingredients, it creates a very responsive and durable sleep surface that matches your body’s shape for a perfect sleeping experience.
- Light and Airy: the breathable foam allows air to flow through the mattress allowing you to maintain the proper body temperature throughout the night.
- Supportive and Pain-Free: the pressure relieving foam helps to eliminate pressure points thereby improving the sleep experience. The memory foam conforms to your body so joints and bones sink into the mattress instead of you feeling your weight against the surface. This usually results in fewer aches and pains.
- Memory Foam Perfected: as mentioned earlier, the CertiPUR-US foam meets strict standards for emissions, content, and durability. It is made without harmful chemicals like phthalates, formaldehyde, and flame retardants. It has been made with the good stuff and the bad was left out!
And it arrives in a box that allows for easy installation in your RV or home!
What is our RV Replacement Mattress Like to Sleep on?
As of this posting date, we have slept on the mattress for two nights. Now we have had lots of mattresses in our married lives so we know enough about what we like and don’t like! We are truly amazed that a mattress that costs less than $200 can be so comfortable. We could not be happier!
It looks and feels like the temperpedic we had in our previous full time RV home. The one thing that really surprises use other than how comfortable it is relates to the odor that we expected but have not noticed, even in the small confines of our RV home. The temperpedic mattress had a chemical smell for a long time after we bought and used it.
What Have Others Said About this Mattress?
The most contentious issue that RVers can face in their RV experience is getting a good nights sleep. If that cannot be achieved then the whole RV lifestyle will never achieve success. It does not matter whether it is a full time, part-time or some time RVer. Poor sleeping conditions do not make for a fun time while RVing!
So, take it from Howard and Pam, who both suffer from occasional back issues, if you are in the market for an RV replacement mattress, check out our choice and see if this might also work for you. It does not matter whether your RV mattress replacement needs are for the RV or the home, there are options for both.
